Connect Gemini to Solon

This guide covers the published desktop release, v1.0.5. Use your own Gemini API key; Google controls your account's model availability, quotas and charges.

The v1.0.5 Windows preview offers Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite only, using your own key without Solon sign-in. It includes 20 trial prompts on this device, with no daily reset. Tool calls and retries within one submitted prompt count together. A dispatched request counts even if Google rejects it; Google quotas and charges are separate. When the trial ends, local files and saved chats remain available.

  1. Install Solon for Windows from the download page.
  2. Create a key in Google AI Studio. Keep the key private.
  3. Open Desktop Settings, find the API Keys / AI Providers section, and save your key under Google Gemini.
  4. Open a matter, choose an available Gemini model, select the documents needed for your task and send a prompt.

Before sending client material

Your prompt, conversation context and selected or tool-retrieved material are sent to Google for AI processing. Local storage does not make AI requests offline or confidential by default.

Google's unpaid Gemini services can use inputs and responses to improve its products and may involve human review. Do not submit sensitive, confidential or personal information to that tier. Read Google's Gemini API terms and choose an appropriate service before using client material.

If a request fails

Check that your key is valid, the selected model is available to your account and your Google quota has not been exhausted. If Google requires billing for that model, review the charges before enabling it. Never paste your key into a chat or support request.
